FRANK O. GEHRY „LITTLE BEAVER“, VITRA 1987

We are pleased to present an iconic design classic:

The “Little Beaver” Lounge Chair, designed by Frank O. Gehry and produced by Vitra.

The Little Beaver is part of Gehry’s legendary experiments with corrugated cardboard. Building on his “Easy Edges” series, which he created in the 1970s, Gehry further developed the idea and, with his so-called “Experimental Edges,” created sculptural-looking furniture made of layered corrugated cardboard.

With its characteristic, organically rough form, the Little Beaver is far more than an ordinary armchair: it appears more as a sculptural design object, yet remains fully functional as a piece of seating furniture. Its unusual materiality and striking silhouette make it a particularly fascinating example of experimental furniture design from the 1980s.

The armchair is in vintage condition appropriate for its age, with an appealing patina and signs of wear. Especially with furniture made of layered corrugated cardboard, slight changes and traces of the past decades are part of the object’s history and authenticity.

The original Vitra brass plaque has been lost over the years. The recess on the chair where it was intended to be mounted is clearly visible.
